Cocoa Redux

I’m not going to pull back my initial post on Cocoa, but something I’ve noticed recently is that they play the worst music. they actually played "We Built This City" by Starship, a song Blender Magazine named The Worst Single Ever. Overall the mix is almost entirely 80’s. This wouldn’t be so bad, but the selection is a mix of marginally ok songs, and much worse. Whoever chooses the music at Cocoa has no love or knowledge of music one would think. Please. Fix. This.

The Squid And The Whale

While The Squid And The Whale is enjoyable for several reasons, what I found most interesting is is how it illustrates how little Park Slope has changed in 20 years. Of course, the movie was shot sometime in the last couple of years, but the brownstoned boulevards betray no real sign of whether it is 1966, 1986, 2006. Other than certain styles, the only thing that I can think of offhand that betrays the fact that the movie is not current is the mention of Gage and Tollners which closed a year or so ago. Certainly the number of great restaurants in the slope (and yes, all over brownstone brooklyn) had something to do with their exit, making it unlikely that some Berkeley Carroll parents would head down there to celebrate a parental triumph.
